Praying for our Children

I have never prayed more diligently for our children as I do now. My daughter has recently finished college and is seeking to find the specifics of her next step in life. My son is finishing his sophomore year in High School, and he is at a critical stage in life as he seeks direction for the course that God has set his future.

It seems as if great need is our motivator for truly fervent prayer in our lives; especially when it comes to our children. The truth is, God has been molding, guiding, providing for, and protecting our children from the moment they were conceived. Even though my wife and I feel less control now as parents, really we have never had the precious lives of our children in our hands. They have always been in the hands of their Heavenly Father.

All this said, the fact remains that God has given us an opportunity to partner with Him in the growth of our children. Prayer is a big part of that. I wished that I had been as faithful to pray for my children in the past as I am now. Having tasted the fruit of the experience, I would encourage every parent of children of every age to pray intensely and pray frequently for their children.

I wholeheartedly agree. I have prayed for my daughters all of their lives but those prayers have been much more concentrated and fervent the past couple of years. Prayers for godly attributes, wise decisions, tender hearts towards God's leading & involvement in their lives...
My books "Praying the Scriptures for Your Teenager" and "The Power of a Praying Parent" are well worn. I would encourage every parent to use scripture when praying for their son or daughter. The fruit of doing so is an abiding peace in their hearts that God can & will do wondrous works in the lives of their children.
In closing, I love this quote by Ruth Bell Graham: "As a mother, I must faithfully, patiently, lovingly, and happily do my part - then quietly wait for God to do His."
