This post is a little late...but it goes along with the March 16th reading. Hopefully, it will comfort anyone who has fallen behind a bit to know that even your leaders aren't perfect. Big surprise, right?
Anyway, on the subject of imperfections...Blackaby's devotion on March 16th spoke about the importance of the watchman for ancient cities: "Everyone’s life depended on the alert watchman as he peered into the horizon for the earliest glimpse of an approaching threat."
I believe that God has intended for the local church to function as a community of watchmen. Our lives are to be so interwined that we can peer into the actions, thoughts, and dreams of one another and warn each other of impending threats. If we do not surround ourselves with a caring community to serve us in this way, it is only a matter of time before the Enemy's attack will come upon us, usually when we least expect it.
Do you have anyone who is keeping watch on your life? Does anyone in our church count on you to warn them of approaching threats? Have you allowed yourself to become vulnerable enough in the presence of your brothers and sisters in the Lord for this kind of community to even exist? I pray that Living Hope would be a community of watchmen. Our spiritual lives depend upon it.
