As I read Blackaby's devotional about Mary Madalene and the highs and lows of Christian life, I'm reminded of the path the Porters have traveled down the road of parenthood. I don't know that I am the right person to give an account of the journey the Porters have traveled but I can tell you that the past six and a half years have been amazing and painful. A journey to parenthood that started with fertility issues that led them to Kazakhstan to adopt twin boys. It wasn't long after bringing the boys home, they found out Monica was pregnant and then a baby girl was born. Then, with twin three-year-old boys and a nearly two-year-old daughter, they found out Monica was pregnant again! A healthy pregnancy, ready to enter the third and final trimester, took an unexpected turn and an ultrasound showed baby Benjamin's heart had stopped. Through much heartache, prayer, and restoration Brandon and Monica have made it to today. From a plane ride home from Kazakhstan, to the news of their pregnancy with their daughter and from an ultrasound no expecting parents want to face, to the the birth of Jamison this morning. What a wonderful journey God has led them through.
I didn't really know Brandon and Monica before the loss of Benjamin but have seen the way God matured them through that trail. I've also seen how God has used that loss to help Brandon and Monica share the love of Christ with others who have experienced that same pain. The Porters have experienced emotional highs and lows thus far in their journey and God will use every unique part for His glory; not because Brandon and Monica chose to weep beside an empty tomb, but because they choose to rejoice in the One who lives through them.
