Annointing Jesus' Feet - John 12:3

Today's devotion takes us back to the story of Mary annointing the feet of Jesus with the costly oil. It is a well known story and illustrates Mary's humility and affection toward Jesus and provides a display of the honor and allegiance she gave to Him. Mary's actions live out the command we find in 2 Corinthinas 5:9, "Therefore we make it our aim to be well pleasing to Him."

Mary had more than just warm feelings for Christ, in fact the oil she used is said to represent about one years wages at that time, more than 30 times the value of the bribe Judas accepted to betray Jesus. Examining Mary's actions in John 12 permits us to look into her heart and there we see a faithful follower whose deepest desire was to serve and please Jesus.

We should make it our aim to please Christ by being faithful in our daily walk with Him, by living as holy a life as is possible and pursuing righteousness in all our dealing with others. That would make us well pleasing to Him".
