Are you happy? Are you satisfied? These are two very different questions. Happiness is a more short-term emotion whereas satisfaction is more long-term. Your happiness can change quickly based on current circumstances. However, satisfaction is more about being content with the overall direction of your life. Satisfaction comes from resting in God’s holiness and resting in His promises. Many people say they have made Christ the Lord of their life. First things first! Have they made Him the Lord of their day? For those struggling to stop for a daily quiet time with God, Blackaby makes this suggestion: “make the priority of your life to love Him with all your heart.” If we could only do this with any consistency, just think how much happier and satisfied our lives would be.
In Ephesians 3:20, Paul writes one of the most profound promises related to God’s love for mankind. He reminds us that we worship a God who is “able to do immeasurably more than we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us.” In our limited perspective, we can each imagine what happiness and satisfaction look like, but our God can accomplish immeasurably more than this. Although this scripture doesn’t promise a life protected from difficulty & heartache, we are able to trust that He will use each tear that falls from our eyes to mold us into the men & women He desires us to be. In doing so, we can rest knowing that every circumstance can bring glory and honor to His name. As Pastor Jason has said many times, God is more interested in our character than our comfort. Therefore, happiness today in Christ leads to satisfaction in God’s plan for tomorrow. Are you there yet? If not, stand shoulder-to-shoulder with another Christian who will be willing to walk with you, cry with you, celebrate with you, pray with you, and remind you of the wealth of God’s promises.
