In today’s devotion, Blackaby provides a verse from Acts 26:19 near the end of Paul’s ministry when he declares, “Therefore, King Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision.”
Why can’t we be like Paul? Why can’t we boldly declare, “I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision”? First, we must know what the “heavenly vision” is! God doesn’t hide this from us. He doesn’t make it hard to see or understand. The way we find this vision is to simply be still & quiet long enough to see it. In today’s world, this is no easy task.
Let’s suppose you’re at a large gathering with your spouse. Throughout the course of the evening, you gradually drift apart. When you’re in a crowded room with everyone talking at once, you would be unable to hear your spouse’s voice coming from the other side of the room. (Some of you may disagree and say that your spouse is loud enough to be heard even in the noisiest crowd.) Also you might not see your spouse because there are so many others inhibiting your view. However, if all the voices were suddenly silenced & everyone moved aside, you could then see & hear your spouse clearly once more.
When we decide to stop for a few moments each day to remove the noise & clutter from our over-committed lives, God will reveal Himself to us. We’re not trapped in this never-ending schedule because we do have a choice. We choose how & where we spend each moment of everyday. Regardless of our stated priorities, our real priorities are accomplished each day.
God has a specific task for each of us. Through His Word, prayer, & church, God enables us to discern His perfect will. Once we understand this “heavenly vision”, then we must face the hard part. Trust & Obey! When our selfish clutter is silenced, God can & will do amazing things through our lives. No Christian is insignificant. No Christian is exempt. On this journey of life, are you willing to submit to any task to fulfill God’s heavenly vision?
