In Blackaby's Experiencing God Day-by-Day, today's devotional speaks of the 8th verse of Psalm 16. "He Is at Your Right Hand" looks at the 8th verse, which says:
I have set the Lord always before me;
Because He is at my right hand I shall not be moved.
Blackaby gives a short, historical definition of the "right hand," and of its position of distinction, reserved for one's chief adviser and supporter. The Miriam-Webster dictionary lists it as "a place of honor." It is easy for me to see a one-sided view of the fact that Christ is my "chief adviser." It's easy to think that He is there "when I need him," or when crisis arise. It is easy to take comfort in knowing that I "shall not be moved." It is convenient to view His position of Counselor and chief adviser, but difficult to remember that He is "always before me." Blackaby states, "everything you do is in the context of your relationship with Christ." That is the way we should view this text and the way we should live our lives, as followers of Christ. My hope is that every decision I make, be made with an eternal perspective and fueled by the Holy Spirit who dwells in me. May I not be hesitant in seeking His will for my life, while giving Him all of the praise and adoration.
