Pray for Each Other

One of the hardest jobs in the Christian life is the job of the intercessor. Yet, each of us has been instructed by God’s Word to pray for each other.

James 5:16 Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.

We have seen examples of powerful intercessory prayer by several mentioned in the Bible such as Moses when he prayed for the children of Israel on their journey from Egypt and as Jesus Himself when He prayed that passionate prayer for His disciples and for all who would believe.

For me, I have to be very disciplined in this are of my life or I will not be regular or focused on praying for people who are struggling, who are sick, who are seeking direction, or those who are lost. I have developed a plan that helps me each morning to systematically pray for my family, my co-workers, my men’s small group, my ministry area, and lost people whom I desire to reach. Even with a system, intercessory prayer is hard work.

I encourage you to develop a plan that is easy to remember and easy to follow. Yes, it will require discipline, but it will be worth it. Remember, “the prayer for a righteous man is powerful and effective.” Praying for others glorifies God, strengthens our faith, and allows us to join God in His work to touch lives.
