The Lord is My Shepherd

How this familiar Psalm brings comfort to our lives! Even if I don’t have the same understanding of the sheep and shepherd image as David did, I find great comfort in the watchcare of the Great Shepherd. Blakaby’s words of challenge ring true in my own heart – do I deeply and implicitly trust the heart of my Shepherd? Do I both move and rest within the boundaries of this thought…”The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want”? Herein lies real peace and rest for my soul.
I am a meditator…I find great strength in holding fast to one particular verse or portion of Scripture for an extended period of time. Possibly it is simply the frenetic nature of our lives or the tendency of my mind to wander and become distracted, but meditation allows me focus. Often I am drawn to this Psalm…especially when I am troubled because the simplicity of the promises held here refresh me each and every time.
Take time to study this Psalm; look at all that our Great Shepherd provides- rest, restoration, guidance, peace of mind, comfort, provision, goodness, mercy, eternal security. It is no wonder “I shall not want”.
